The Ross Island was the Administrative Headquarters for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the British era. Till I left Andamans in 2005, the usual way to reach Ross Island was a boat journey from Phoenix Bay Jetty. The boats were all local government owned (Andaman and Nicobar Administation). Now things have changed, small private boats operate from near Marina park (Andaman water sports complex) and the journey time is reduced since marina park is quite close.
I managed to get this old pictures (of Ross Island) online. These pictures are still found in museum at Cellular Jail Port Blair.
